An Example Of Chinese Art (Non-related to the exhibit.)
Alluring. Absorbing. Awe-Inspiring.
The LA Art Show emanates all these qualities and more. The prominent event showcased colorful-to-magical opuses and artwork adorned on white walls under overhanging luminous lights last year. This year, with a slew of expansive exhibitions and installations, it makes a strong artistic statement: art should be a confluence of the past, present and future. Indeed it is at the west coast’s most inclusive art ground zero.
Stationed at the LA convention center, the show’s compartmentalized appeal stems from its modern-and-contemporary, historical-and-traditional sections. There are also vintage posters; also, IFPDA Los Angeles Fine Print Fair will underscore several prominent galleries in a special offering. The centerpiece, however, is ‘Letters from Los Angeles: Text in Southern California Art,’ an exhibition exploring the city’s visual art typography as distinctive and ubiquitous; it includes works by “text-in-art” luminaries like Edward Ruscha and Corita Kent.
Another eye-catching exhibition, China: Fusion, spotlights the country’s mainland artists, and their compilation of Eastern and Western Culture through “content and form.” Some highlights: the 4,032-square-foot area radiates zeal in the forms of a traditional Chinese style “9-Couleurs,” and eight galleries from Beijing and Shanghai. There will be more than 100 works of art.
In addition, the show features installations from ADC & Building Bridges, Contemporary Art Ruhr (C.A.R), Los Angeles Art Association and Launch LA.
The 18th annual show will run from Jan. 24-27 in the convention center’s South Hall J and K. On Jan. 23, a patron reception and opening night soiree with hosts Ali Larter and Hayes MacArthur will kick off the festivities. They will also offer informative art tours and highbrow discussions.
